Mindfulness for Adults or Teens (separate courses)

Mindfulness is being aware of the present moment, fully and without judgement. It is about NOT getting caught up in thoughts of the past or worries about the future. Being able to focus only on the ‘here and now’ allows your mind respite and a chance to calm.

There are many types of mindfulness practices available, however the focus for these groups will be on regulating emotions to achieve a greater sense of both inner and outer calm. The skills taught are taken from mindfulness practices delivered in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for emotion regulation, and the courses are not MBCT or MBSR courses.

Mindfulness is run in various program formats at Worthing Natural Balance and Wellbeing, 70 Salvington Road. At different times there may be various courses available, including 4-6 week courses and 4 hour workshops The courses will always include an introduction to mindfulness and how to use mindfulness skills to free yourself from overwhelming thoughts or ‘buzzing mind’. A number of different practices and techniques are covered, with practice opportunities both in session and between sessions for maximum benefit. These include using the body and breathing, focusing on our natural environment to discover respite within it, and other options, all of which make use of the senses within a mindful, self-soothing focus.

Mindful Living (5 week) Course

Next course: starts Tuesday 12th November 6pm

This course is run for an hour each week, for 5 consecutive weeks. The cost is £50 for the 5 weeks.

Learn simple mindfulness techniques to allow yourself to live peacefully in the present moment. Banish worries about the past and future and learn how to focus on all that we really have…what is right here, right now, in front of us.

The beauty of the mindful living course is that, other than the time needed to attend the course, no extra time is required to be set aside by you. We do understand the time pressures which many of you face, and know that the idea of finding extra time can be off-putting as it seems nigh-on impossible to squeeze anything extra into your schedule.

Fear not, this course will teach you how to incorporate mindfulness into your current routine, to allow you to gain respite from the chaos and a sense of inner peace and self-acceptance as you go about your daily tasks.

Mindfulness for Teens (5 week course for 14-17 year olds)

January 2020

Tuesday evenings 6-7pm

Is your teen struggling with feeling overwhelmed? Maybe school or social pressures are building up. Maybe anxiety is a problem for them. Mindfulness can help.

By paying deliberate attention to one thing at a time, we can learn to turn our focus away from unhelpful thoughts. What we focus on is a choice. Mindfulness skills enhance our choices by developing our ability to focus the mind in the direction we choose. Ultimately this leads to a greater sense of calm, increased ability to let go and relax, and the power to accept what we cannot change yet not get caught up in any negative thoughts or feelings associated with this.

This course will cover a variety of different mindfulness practices to illustrate the skills, as well as supported discussions and feedback. However there is no expectation to share thoughts and attendees can just participate without pressure to speak if this feels more comfortable.
